Estadio BBVA: World Cup 2026 Guide

By GoinAtlas Editorial Team · Updated May 2026

Estadio BBVA opened in 2015 as the home of Club de Fútbol Monterrey (Rayados) and is consistently rated among the best football stadiums in Latin America. The design by Populous architects — the same firm behind Wembley and Allianz Arena — prioritizes sight lines and atmosphere: no interior columns, a roof that channels crowd noise, and a pitch positioned lower than street level so the lower tier is extremely close to the playing surface.

Capacity: 53,500 for World Cup configuration. Location: Guadalupe municipality, east of Monterrey’s Centro.

Getting There

By Metro: Take Line 2 east toward Lerdo station. From the Centro (Zaragoza station), the journey takes approximately 20 minutes. From Lerdo station, the stadium is reachable by Uber (10–15 min, 40–60 MXN) or by organized shuttle during match days.

By Uber: From Monterrey Centro: 80–130 MXN, 20–30 minutes depending on traffic. After matches, surge pricing is likely — 150–250 MXN for the return. The Uber drop-off zone is on the stadium’s east side.

By car: Parking available in lots surrounding the stadium. Arrive 90+ minutes before kickoff to avoid the worst congestion. Exiting by car after the match takes 45–90 minutes.

Stadium Access and Entry

Gates open: 2.5 hours before kickoff for World Cup matches.

Entry: Electronic tickets via the FIFA ticketing app. No printed tickets. Have your phone fully charged and the app open before reaching the gate.

Prohibited items: No bags larger than 30×20×15 cm. No outside food or drink. No professional cameras (detachable lens). Metal detectors at all entry points — arrive early.

The experience inside: Estadio BBVA’s design concentrates the crowd close to the pitch. The lower tier’s proximity to the field and the enclosed roof structure create one of the loudest atmospheres in Mexican football. For the World Cup, expect a full house for most matches — Rayados fans are among the most organized and vocal in Liga MX.

Inside the Stadium

Concessions: Mexican food at the concession stands — tacos, tortas, nachos, and beer. Prices are stadium-inflated: 80–150 MXN for food items, 80–120 MXN for beer. Credit cards accepted at most stands.

The pitch view: The playing surface is positioned 12 meters below street level — the effect is an unusually steep lower tier that puts spectators close to the action. No seat in the stadium is more than 120 meters from the center circle.

Facilities: Multiple levels of restrooms throughout the stadium. The concourse is wide enough to move between sections without congestion.

Before and After the Match

Eating before: San Pedro Garza García (15 minutes by car) has the best pre-match restaurant options. In Guadalupe near the stadium, taquería clusters near the Metro line serve cabrito tacos and norteño-style grilled meats at 80–150 MXN per person.

The Rayados atmosphere: Club Monterrey games are known for organized supporter sections (the Libres y Lokos) who create coordinated chants and displays. For World Cup matches between neutral nations, the atmosphere will be more mixed — but the stadium infrastructure (sound, proximity, seating rake) ensures that any full crowd sounds exceptional.
