Egypt in November: The Best Value Month — Comfortable Temperatures, Decent Prices

By GoinAtlas Editorial Team · Updated May 2026

November is arguably Egypt’s single best month for value travel. The oppressive heat is thoroughly gone. The January and February package tour peak hasn’t arrived. Temperatures across the country are in the ideal exploration range — warm and sunny with cool evenings. And while October was slightly more pressure-free, November has the advantage of the full winter tourism infrastructure running (boats, guides, sites fully staffed) without the overcrowding.

What to Do

Complete Luxor itinerary over 3 days: November allows the full Luxor experience spread comfortably over multiple days — East Bank (Karnak and Luxor Temple) and West Bank (Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut, Medinet Habu) — without heat-management constraints. The light in November at the temple columns and tombs is warm and direct; excellent for photography.

Nile dahabiya cruise: November is the peak window for traditional wooden dahabiya sailboat cruises. These boats carry 8–16 passengers and sail slowly between Luxor and Aswan over 4–8 days, stopping at small villages and lesser-known temples that the large floating hotels bypass. Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo, and the communities of the Nile Valley are all included. The autumn pace — sun setting over palm trees, warm evenings on deck — is exceptional.

Cairo walking exploration: November temperatures make Cairo walkable in ways the summer months simply don’t allow. Walk Islamic Cairo from Al-Hussein Mosque through the Khan el-Khalili bazaar to the Citadel, including the Ibn Tulun Mosque and the Gayer-Anderson House (an early 20th-century collector’s house that preserves the aesthetic of a wealthy Cairo household). Allow a full day.

Wadi el-Natrun Coptic Monasteries: The four desert monasteries of the Natrun Valley are accessible as a day trip from Cairo. November’s cool temperatures make the desert drive and monastery walk pleasant. The monasteries remain active religious communities; dress modestly and respect the monastic atmosphere.

Ras Mohamed National Park, Sinai: Accessible by day trip from Sharm el-Sheikh, this protected marine area has arguably the best coral reef diving in Egypt. November water temperatures remain warm enough for comfortable diving, and the park’s calm waters and abundant reef life make it outstanding.

Festivals & Events

Cairo International Film Festival (late November): One of Africa and the Arab world’s major film festivals. Held at various venues across Cairo. Accredited press screenings and public ticket sales run simultaneously. Films span African, Arab, and international categories.

Sham el-Nessim (if it falls in November): Unlikely but possible depending on the Coptic Easter calendar.

Start of Luxor African Film Festival (variable, sometimes November or December): A smaller but growing film festival hosted in Luxor with a focus on African cinema.

Practical Tips

November is the sweet spot between shoulder and peak season pricing. Hotels that were cheap in September–October are beginning their winter rate increases in November, but haven’t yet reached January levels. Booking 4–6 weeks ahead for Luxor and Aswan is adequate for most options.

Nile dahabiya operators are in high demand from October through February. For November travel, book at least 2 months ahead for the best boats.

November evenings in Luxor and Aswan are genuinely cool. A light fleece or jacket is needed after dark. Mornings at outdoor sites (especially in Aswan) can start cool before the sun rises.

Red Sea diving in November is still good but the water cooling trend means longer dives benefit from a 3mm wetsuit.

November Prices vs Peak Season

November sits in the sweet spot — past shoulder season, not yet peak. Expect these differences vs January (high season):

CategoryNovemberJanuary (peak)Saving
Luxor/Aswan hotel (mid-range)$50–90/night$90–160/night30–45% less
Nile cruise (3-night)$300–500/person$500–900/person30–40% less
Cairo hotel (mid-range)$60–100/night$80–130/night15–25% less
Guided tour (private, full day)$80–120$100–15015–20% less
Site entry feesFixedFixedNo saving
Flights (Europe → Cairo)€250–450€350–60020–35% less

Early November (1–15) tends to be cheaper than late November (16–30) when winter travelers begin arriving.

What to Pack for Egypt in November

November packing is slightly more varied than summer — you need both sun protection and a layer for evenings:

Essential:

  • Light breathable clothing for daytime (linen, cotton)
  • Light jacket or fleece for evenings in Cairo, Luxor, Siwa
  • Comfortable walking shoes (you will walk a lot at temple sites)
  • Sunscreen (SPF 50) — the November sun is still strong, especially at open-air sites
  • Sunglasses and hat

If diving/snorkeling (Red Sea):

  • 3mm wetsuit or shorty (water still warm enough without, but longer dives benefit)
  • Rashguard

Modest dress for sites:

  • Shoulders and knees covered at mosques and some temples
  • A light scarf for women (useful at multiple sites)

Skip:

  • Heavy winter coat — Cairo evenings are cool, not cold. Luxor and Aswan evenings are mild.
  • Umbrella — rain is very unlikely outside Alexandria.

Who November Is For

The single most broadly applicable recommendation for Egypt. November suits first-time visitors, families, budget travelers, history enthusiasts, and divers equally. The tradeoffs are minimal: slightly warmer than January, slightly pricier than September. The conditions are excellent in almost every dimension.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is November a good time to visit Egypt? Yes — it’s one of the best months. Heat is gone, crowds haven’t peaked, and prices are 20–40% below January highs. The Nile Valley (Luxor, Aswan) and Cairo are in ideal condition for sightseeing.

Is Egypt hot in November? No longer hot in the summer sense. Cairo daytime reaches 22–26°C (72–79°F) — warm and sunny, comfortable for walking. Luxor is 25–30°C. Evenings are cool (12–16°C in Cairo), requiring a light jacket. Only Aswan afternoons still feel warm.

Is November good for diving in Egypt? Yes. The Red Sea water temperature in November is 24–26°C — still comfortable without a wetsuit for short dives. A 3mm wetsuit improves extended dive comfort. Visibility is excellent and the sites are less crowded than summer peak.

Is it safe to visit Egypt in November 2026? Egypt is a safe destination for tourists. The main tourist areas — Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, the Red Sea coast — have extensive tourism infrastructure and security presence. Standard travel precautions apply. Check your government’s current travel advisory before booking.

What should I wear in Egypt in November? Light clothing during the day (t-shirts, linen trousers or dresses). A light jacket for evenings, especially in Cairo and at higher elevations. Modest clothing (covered shoulders and knees) for mosques and some sites. Comfortable walking shoes — temple sites involve significant walking on uneven ground.

How far in advance should I book November travel to Egypt? For Nile dahabiya cruises: 2–3 months ahead (they fill up October–February). For hotels in Luxor: 4–6 weeks is usually sufficient, though the best properties sell out earlier. Cairo hotels have more availability. Flights: 6–8 weeks ahead for reasonable prices.
